5 Things a Designer Hates to Hear

As designers our work gets reviewed constantly, and you have to take the good with the bad – comes with the territory we get it. But there is nothing worse than when your work is being reviewed by a non-creative or your boss – who just happens to be the least creative person in the world. For all non-creatives, here’s what not to say:

1. “Why is it so plain?”

Ok, just because there aren’t patterns, drop shadows, a collage of photos or endless amounts of text does not mean that a design is plain – it is called clean.

2. “Can you combine the two?”

This is specifically referring to when you have created multiple design concepts. Sure, yeah I can combine these two concepts that have a completely different look and feel – that will look great.

3. “Do you think there is room to add…”

Heaven forbid there is any white space, you know so your eye can breathe. Who needs that?

4. “I don’t like it but I can’t tell you why.”

Hmmm…that is constructive. But no big deal I will just go back to my desk and waste hours trying to read your mind.

5. “I should have mentioned this before..”

Yes, you should have mentioned that we need to add a chart that will consume 50% of the page. No big deal, that won’t affect my design at all.
